Finland's population stood at 5,475,207 at the end of May, according to Statistics Finland's preliminary data.
 
The population increased by 3,455 persons over the January to May period, which is 3,780 persons fewer than for the corresponding period of the year before.
 
The reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad. The number of immigrants was 3,445 higher than that of emigrants as per the data.
 
Natural population growth, or excess of births to deaths, was only 10 persons.
 
A total of 8,760 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 5,320 persons emigrated from Finland during the January to May period.
 
The number of immigrants was 2,610 lower and the number of emigrants 320 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
 
In all, 2,380 of the immigrants and 3,640 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
 
During the January to May period, 22,580 children were born, which is 1,040 children fewer than in the corresponding period of 2014.
 
The number of deaths was 22,570, which is 450 higher than one year earlier.
 
The number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 93,610 over the January to May period.   
 
Compared with the previous January to May period, the increase was 630 migrations, according to the municipal division of 2015.
