The District Court of Lapland on Wednesday sentenced the Utsjoki school killer to 12 years’ imprisonment for murder and unwarranted threats.

A compensation fine amounting to 86,000 euros was also imposed on the accused for the suffering caused for the death of a 16-year-old schoolboy.

The 31-year-old man stabbed the student at an upper secondary school in Utsjoki in October last year.

The accused also threatened a female teacher who was trying to intervene. According to the psychiatric review, the perpetrator was responsible for his actions.

The court deemed the crimes aggravated due to the perpetrator’s earlier offence. He was previously accused of, among other things, assaulting six people.

The severity of the offence was based on the intention, the way the crime was executed and the presence of students at the crime scene. There were two girls present when the perpetrator attacked the victim.

The murdered boy’s relative demanded penalty for murder to be handed to the accused.
