The Vihreä Liito (Green League) parliamentary group on Thursday submitted a written petition to the parliament in relation to the same-sex marriage legislation.

The party has expressed concerns about the Minister of Justice and Employment Jari Lindström's statement that he does not wish to present the law before the government.

The Greens pointed out that Prime Minister Juha Sipilä's government had reaffirmed its commitment to carry legislative changes passed by the previous parliament.

"The ministerial task is to finalise as obliged by the parliament practical issues arising from the decisions in such a way that the legislation is coherent and effective," said the Green party.

A bill legalising same-sex marriage was passed by the previous parliament.
