The country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been in touch with the Russian embassy in Helsinki following the suspected violation of Finnish airspace which took place last Friday.
 
The Russian embassy was informed about the suspected airspace violation immediately after it occurred on Friday, said Mikko Kinnunen, the head of the Unit for Security Policy and Crisis Management at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
The foreign affairs ministry was again in contact with the Russian embassy on Monday when the information on the suspected airspace violation was handed over.
 
A Russian Air Force transport aircraft IL-76 is suspected to have violated Finnish airspace south of Porvoo on Friday.
 
Pictures taken by Finnish Hornet fighter jet confirm the military aircraft to be armed at the time of airspace violation.
 
The Defence Minister Jussi Niinistö did not want to comment on possible violation of the Finnish airspace before the completion of the investigation by the Finnish Border Guard.
