Finland and its neighbour Sweden do not have differences when it comes to the defence cooperation between the two countries, the Swedish Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist told news agency STT.

According to Hultqvist, the change in the government leadership has not affected the defence cooperation between the two nations. The policy according to Hultqvist remains the same as during the time of former defence minister Carl Haglund.

Hultqvist believes now is the time to focus on the already agreed upon defence projects.

"I have met the new Defence Minister (Jussi Niinistö) and we aim to complete these projects and the rest of the agreed projects which we agreed with (Finland's) previous government," Hultqvist told news agency STT during the Almedalen Week in Visby.

Hultqvist met his Finnish counterpart Jussi Niinistö a few days back in Stockholm.

Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter reported at that time that cooperation with Sweden would not be a "hot issue" to Niinistö.

Niinistö who got married at the end of last week did not attend the convention in Visby which deals with Nordic defence cooperation.

According to Niinistö's staff, the minister was not present at the convention due to scheduling reasons.

Finland was represented by Finnish ambassador in Stockholm Jarmo Viinanen.
