Deputy Prosecutor General Jorma Kalske has launched a pre-trial investigation into comments made by Olli Sademies, a Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) reserve councillor from the City Council of Helsinki.

Sademies in May posted a message on the social media platform Facebook in which he wrote that the number of children by African immigrants should be capped, even if it requires to sterilise African men.

The deputy councillor’s writing did not lead to further action, and neither did the police decide to launch an investigation.

Sademies is a retired police officer who was based at the Helsinki police department as a crime investigator.

The request for investigation to the prosecutor general’s office was made by Non-Discrimination Ombudsman Kirsi Pimiä.
