President Sauli Niinistö on Tuesday termed the deal reached on Iran nuclear programme as a significant step towards the achievement of stability in the whole of the Middle East.

Niinistö in a statement said Iran has assured that its nuclear programme is peaceful and will continue to be peaceful.

The deal opens an opportunity for Iran to return more closely into the international community and promotes the public welfare, said Niinistö.

The President also hopes the deal will play a constructive role in other operations in the Middle East region.

The decade long negotiations proved once again that difficult issues can be resolved through negotiations, said Niinistö.

The President pointed out that the work is not yet over, but now is the time to focus on the implementation of the agreement.

The historic deal was reached on Tuesday in Vienna. Besides Iran, the United States, Russia, China, Germany, Britain and France were the other nations involved in the negotiations. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was also involved in the talks.
