A two-year-old boy drowned in a bathtub in the Southern Ostrobothnia town of Kurikka on Monday night, the police said.
 
According to the police, the family was taking a bath in the tub and afterwards left to go inside the house.
 
The child who was in the tub had been wearing floaters which were removed while going to bath.
 
According to the Ostrobothnia police briefing, the father was going to close the lid of the bathing tub when he noticed the child was under the water.
 
An immediate attempt to resuscitate the child was started and the first response unit arrived quickly, said the police.
 
The boy was pronounced dead despite the attempt to revive him.
 
The incident will be examined as a cause of death investigation. No foul play is suspected in the incident.
