The immigration service, however, did not divulge which municipalities the planned reception centres will be located in.
Each reception centre would accommodate at least 150 people. The responsibility for establishing the centres will be undertaken by the municipalities concerned or the Finnish Red Cross.
The need for the new reception centres arises due to a sharp increase in the number of asylum seekers.
This year, about 3,400 asylum seekers have arrived in the country, and the Finnish Immigration Service estimates up to 8,000 asylum seekers will arrive this year.
The total number of asylum seekers last year stood at 3,651. In all, 1,346 asylum seekers were granted positive decisions.
A part of the planned new centres will be established from scratch, while some will be established by reopening centres which had been shut in recent years.
