The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation believes that the hunting for common eider during summer should be stopped.
In this way, according to the association, it would better preserve the survival of the bird species, rather than a full cessation to hunting.
The common eider has so far been hunted from the beginning of June onwards. The full-scale hunting season begins on August 20.
“The summer hunting of the common eider interferes with the nesting of other island birds,” said the association president, Risto Sulkava in a release.
The agriculture and forestry ministry has submitted the common eider for summer hunting for a period of three years with regional limitations.
It is the belief of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation that the actions of the ministry are insufficient.
