The Chair of Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) Timo Soini termed the anti-multiculturalism remarks made by Finns Party Member of Parliament Olli Immonen on Facebook as unfortunate.

In an interview with Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat, Soini, also the Foreign Minister said that he does not condone hate speech in reference to the MP's anti-

multiculturalism remarks posted in the social media site Facebook.

However, Soini said the criticism levelled against his party has been unreasonable and inappropriate.

Soini revealed that he also has been a target of hate mails.

“If we speak about hate speech, I receive quite a lot,” Soini said.

The Finns Party boss has been subject of criticism in the midst of Immonen outcry.

Soini who is back from holidays defended his silence stating that everyone should have the chance for recreation and vacation.

He posed whether there is any right to be civil. “I am strict on that, I do not answer the phone while on holiday,” Soini told Helsingin Sanomat.

Soini himself does not feel he is responsible for “every reserve councillor remarks”. He also said that he does not take instructions from outsiders on how to act.

“If you want to influence the party, you have to join it. We do not take instructions from the media,” Soini said.

Soini hoped that Immonen does not become a topic of discussion in the upcoming Finns Party convention in Turku this weekend.

He revealed that the party's parliamentary group will deal with Immonen's case later.
