The Oulu police are investigating a case of aggravated rape which happened at Rajakylä district of Oulu on Tuesday.

Contrary to the speculations in the social media, the police said the suspects are not of foreign background.

According to lead investigator, inspector Petri Savela, the police have issued a briefing on the case due to the debate in the social media.

Savela dismissed the information being spread as incorrect and against targeting any person or ethnic group.

Relaying false information devoid of truth should be avoided, Savela warned.

The police suspect two persons in the rape of a 15-year-old girl. The suspects are known to the police.

The police are also investigating two attempted rape cases which took place in Oulu on July 25 and August 2.

It is still early to say whether the incidents are related, Savela said.
