Over 800 disabled veterans and their spouses, widows and support members around the country gathered to celebrate the 75th founding anniversary of the Disabled War Veterans’ Association.

The disabled war veteran Veijo Saloheimo who spoke during the last great celebration held at the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre wished the last disabled war veterans and their spouses a safe life in their twilight years.

President Sauli Niinistö in his speech stressed the significance of the work done by the association in past decades.

The number of disabled war veterans stood at 3,910 at the end of 2014. The association also includes 10,500 spouses of the disabled war veterans.

The association was established on 18 August 1940 as a joint voluntary association for care and fraternal support of disabled war veterans.
