The Finnish Immigration Service is planning to set up a reception centre in Keuruu former garrison facilities initially with an accommodation of around 500 asylum seekers if the city is open to the idea.
 
The reception centre planned to be set up in the beginning of September will be run by the Western Finland chapter of the Finnish Red Cross.
 
The envisaged reception centre will employ 20 workers in addition to support services providers.
 
There are currently 25 reception centres operational in the country, all of which are accommodating asylum seekers over the capacity.
 
The Finnish Immigration Service is looking to set up a number of reception centres during the autumn as there is need of 2,000 new accommodation space in addition to the current capacity of 4,500.
 
A temporary reception centre will be opened in the Oulu district of Sanginsuu.
 
According to the Immigration Service, the first clients will be transferred to the facilities of the former Vallinkorva institute of forestry.
 
The new unit has a capacity to accommodate 150-200 asylum seekers.
