The number of suspected cases of breach of office reported to the police has increased significantly in the 2000s, reported the Karjalainen, a Finnish language regional daily.

Only 156 cases were brought forward in the beginning of 2000s, but at the end of last year the figure had shoot to a record high of 1,139 cases.

Cases related to suspected breach of office became common last year, posting an increase of 20 from the previous year.

The number of suspected cases related to breach of official position and breach of official secrecy has also increased.

Over 300 cases of bribery between 2005 and 2014 have been reported to the police.

Less than ten cases end up in the court annually.

The problem is to identify the crime and its complexities, Vesa Muttilainen from the Police University College told the newspaper.

According to Muttilainen, it is difficult to find out whether it is a case of fraud or corruption.
