New reception centre planned in Hämeenlinna
FTimes- STT Report, Aug 29

Reception centres in the Helsinki region have resorted to emergency measure to ease the situation of asylum seekers.

Interior Minister Petteri Orpo and Finance Minister Alexander Stubb on Friday visited the Punavuori reception centre which is filled to capacity.

Some of asylum seekers at the reception centre sleep on mattresses laid on the floor.

Helsinki Deputy Mayor Laura Räty has described the capacity situation of the reception centres in the city as extreme.

Räty has urged other municipalities in the metropolitan area to open reception centres.

Meanwhile, the Finnish Immigration Service and the Finnish Red Cross are planning to open an emergency asylum reception centre in Lammi, Hämeenlinna.

The reception centre which is planned to be set up at the Mainiemi former substance abuse treatment unit would accommodate 175 to 200 persons.

The reception centre which will be run by the Finnish Red Cross will replace the emergency reception centre which was initially planned to be set up in Forssa.

The municipality of Vihti is also considering opening a reception centre in Hopeaniemi, Vihti. The centre is planned to accommodate 250-300 people.

The municipal council of Vihti will make a decision on the matter on Monday.
