National Police Commissioner Seppo Kolehmainen on Saturday urged people to report low-level crimes to the police.

At a “policeman’s day” conference, he encouraged the audience to report crimes such as reckless driving, violence and hate speech.

Also, minor property crimes and online fraud should be reported, because they can help enlarge the network used for deciphering crime and criminal patterns.

The police director general promised that all vacant posts in the police would be filled, even if it means compromising on development projects.

Kolehmainen presented his views in Helsinki. The “policeman’s day” events were held across the country.

In Vantaa, the Finnish National Board of Investigation opened its doors for the first time to the public and people lined up to explore the NBI premises.

In a Twitter post the police estimated the number of visitors at around 10,000.
