Minister of Local Government and Public Reform Anu Vehviläinen said the examination of the matter is contained in the recent announcement by the government on its top projects.

Both Vehviläinen and Transport and Communications Minister Anne Berner gave a briefing on Tuesday on the progress of the projects in their respective areas.

The projects include, among other things, digitalisation and promotion of different trials and deregulation, all of which are to be streamlined in management of societal affairs.

The only aspiration among the listed areas to be streamlined for funding is digitalising public services with an outlay of 100 million euros.

According to Vehviläinen, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Reform has received about 260 proposals whose total price tag is 1.5 billion euros. A working group is currently sorting the proposals.

Concrete and digitalisation-related projects that are nearly ready for funding are based on establishment of a national entry registry that the finance ministry is preparing now.

This entails a real-time income tax under which, for instance, changes in the tax card need not to be made in the middle of the year. This will not only be helpful to businesses, but will also help the social insurance institution Kela, and the tax and other authorities.

“All of our income in real time would be there. Businesses would only need to inform payroll information there only once,” Vehviläinen said, adding that the plans for the project have been in the making for many years but now it has gone forward.

Vehviläinen said the project is a question of a big reform and the work will last for 4-5 years.
