The hearing of drugs trafficking and abuse of official position allegations brought against the former head of Helsinki police drug unit Jari Aarnio begins this week.

According to the prosecutor, sound evidence against Aarnio will be presented in the hearing.

The key individuals to be heard includes a woman who during pre-trial investigations is believed to have been the only one who directly dealt with Aarni on drugs and a man believed to belong to the leadership of the United Brotherhoodin (UB) gang.

State prosecutor Jarmo Hirvonen said a significant part of the evidence will come from personal evidence.

The woman will be interrogated for reasons of evidence next week. Her defence has, however, claimed that her interrogators should not take advantage of her.

The woman had in the past alleged that police investigators interrogated her without prior warning by offering a drink of Irish coffee.

The woman, however, denies participating in trafficking of hundreds of kilo of hashish in which Aarnio and other suspects have been accused.

Aarnio who has been in detention since November 2013 denies all the allegations.
