Over the January to August period, Finland's population increased by 9,090 persons, which is 7,740 persons fewer than for the corresponding period of the year before.
The main reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad.
The number of immigrants was 6,640 higher than that of emigrants. Natural population growth, that is excess of births to deaths, was 2 450 persons, the data show.
According to the preliminary statistics for the January to August period, 16,190 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 9,560 persons emigrated from Finland.
The number of immigrants was 8,370 lower and the number of emigrants 2,200 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
In all, 5,230 of the immigrants and 6,540 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
During the January to August period, 37,220 children were born, which is 1,560 children fewer than in the corresponding period of 2014.
The number of deaths was 34,770, which is 10 higher than one year earlier.
The number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 186,050 over the January to August period as per the data.
Compared with the previous January to August period, the increase was 5,380 migrations according to the municipal division of 2015.
