Volunteering plays an increasingly important role in helping children and families, according to recent doctoral research.
Working alongside voluntary social work professionals such as technical support staff adds to the resources in children's lives within the social work environment. Among other things, experiences from normal everyday things and relationships are important for children.
In the children's own opinions, though, volunteers should listen more closely, the study says.
The study was done by Johanna Moilanen at the University of Jyväskylä.
