The Vantaa district court has sentenced a Swedish man to a three month conditional prison term for organising an illegal entry into Sweden.
The Gulf of Finland Coast Guard crime prevention unit announced at the beginning of the year that they had captured a man at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport who tried to smuggle a 10-year-old child through Finland to Sweden. The man had used the passport of another person for the boy.
The judgment was issued last week. At the beginning of the preliminary investigation, the charge levied against the man was aggravated facilitation of illegal entry.
A pre-trial investigation was unable to show the man was involved in other cases of human trafficking or belonged to an organised crime group.
The man had in possession euro 6000 in cash, money deemed to have been received for the child.
