A court of appeal in Helsinki has ordered the national social insurance institution, Kela, to pay compensation to a woman following a gender discrimination dispute.
The dispute surrounded the appointment of a new senior physician for the western Finland insurance region.
According to the court, a woman was discriminated against in the selection process for the post in favour of a male applicant while the woman was more qualified.
Kela was unable to convince the court that the procedure was not based on gender discrimination.
The institution was ordered to compensate 5,000 euros to the woman for discrimination.
