Sat, 10 Oct, 2015 12:10:33 AM FTimes Report, Oct 10 File Photo – Lehtikuva. President Sauli Niinistö on Friday held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and discussed various bilateral and international issues including Syria crisis.
Both the presidents discussed bilateral relations, the Ukraine crisis, Syria and the situation in the Middle East, said a press release issued by the President office.
Niinistö assured that Finland and Russia would continue to engage in active cooperation, despite the decrease in trade between the two neighbouring countries.
The Finnish President regarded the fact that the ceasefire in Ukraine and the progress made on the Minsk Agreement were highly positive.
With regard to Syria, Finland is concerned about the increasing tensions and hopes that constructive international cooperation can be achieved in the region, so that progress can be made in bringing the conflict to a peaceful resolution.
