The Helsinki City Council on Monday approved a detailed plan which allows for the implementation of a public transport bridge between Kruunuvuorenranta and the city centre.

The zoning plan will be decided by the city council on November 4, Helsinki City sources said.

The Kruunu bridge project aims to build a bridge connection with Laajasalo, which connects the eastern islands of Helsinki to the inner city.

The bridge will be for trams, pedestrians and cyclists.

The plan calls for the bridge over the Kruunuvuorenselkä to consist of three bridges, of which the longest could end up being the longest in the whole country.

The zoning plan allows for a bridge from Kalasatama to Korkeasaari (home of the Helsinki Zoo) and from there to Kruunuvuorenranta.

Up for debate is whether the connection from Kalasatama will go to Hakaniemi or Kruununhaka.
