Lassi Lammassaari, a former director of the nickel mine company Talvivaara’s parent company, has been charged with abuse of inside information. The case is being handled by the Helsinki District Court.

The news agency STT had not received any confirmation till Monday of what information was related to the charges.

The time period in question is also a mystery. According to the company registry, Lammassaari is not in as liable a position in other companies as he is in Talvivaara.

The district prosecutor confirmed the indictment but did not wish to comment further.

STT could not reach Lammassaari or Talvivaara’s Legal Affairs Vice President Pekka Erkinheimo.

The chief executive officer of Talvivaara’s parent company, Pekka Pera refused to make any comment to STT on Lammassaari.

Lammassaari owned, for example, in 2009 more than half a million shares of Talvivaara, when the value of the holding was worth around a million euros.

In 2012, Lammassaari was no longer in the ranks of the company’s 50 largest shareholders.

Sale of Talvivaara shares was suspended from the stock exchange in November 2014, after the Talvivaara mine in Sotkamo had filed for bankruptcy.

The state-owned Terrafame acquired the mine, and the parent company has continued its operations by selling services to Terrafame.

The company has also leased critical machinery and equipment to Terrafame.
