Both Eagles and Peregrines successfully built nests this year, but Gyrfalcons are still not nesting well, said the National Forestry Institute on Tuesday.

The golden eagles nested well, most successfully in central Lapland. A good nest is the result of an adequate nesting period, favourable weather and a nutritious food situation.

The white-tailed eagle is also doing well in northern Finland, as eagles slowly spread throughout northern Finland.

The peregrine falcon also nested well, though the heavy summer rains hampered it a bit in the southern parts of Lapland and Kittilä.

The gyrfalcons’ nests were looking a little better than in the previous six years, but their breeding is still not at a normal level.

The information was collected from nest inspections, which included National Forestry Institute nest inspectors as well as dozens of volunteer birdwatchers.
