The Capital of Innovation is selected based on interaction and development between the public sec-tor, companies, communities, universities and city residents.
According to Mayor Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, Tampere has everything necessary to win the prize.
Tampere stresses in its application that its industrial environment has been shaped by Nokia with a “knowledge-based economy, based on excellence and innovation”.
Europe's Capital of Innovation Award will be announced in the spring of 2016.
The prize was first awarded in 2014 to Barcelona, Spain.
