Arhinmäki at a press conference said he no longer wishes to continue at the helm of the party.
Reform in the party also needs change in the party leadership, said Arhinmäki.
The Left Alliance chief, however, said he will not be abandoning politics completely.
During the press conference, Li Andersson, a Left Alliance member of parliament, announced that she is considering running for the party’s top-most seat, reported Aamulehti, a Finnish language newspaper.
Other potential candidates are Aino-Kaisa Pekonen, Hanna Sarkkinen, Merja Kyllönen and Jari Myllykoski.
“It is clear that we have a lot of candidates and anyone among them can get elected,” observed Arhinmäki.
