Son of an elderly woman, who was burnt alive in a fire at a detached house at Linnavuorentie’s Vartioharju neighbourhood of Helsinki on Thursday afternoon, was reportedly involved in the murder of his mother, police said on Friday.
The accused son is about 30 years old.
The elderly woman was found dead in a detached house gutted by fire.
The suspect escaped the fire by climbing to the roof of the house.
“He is suspected of murder. The deceased was found to have marks of violence and burn inju-ries,” said detective investigator Anne Hietala.
The police detained the suspect but he is yet to be interrogated.
“He is not in a condition to be interrogated,” Hietala said.
The suspect and his mother lived together in the house.
