Two persons were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of arranging illegal entry in the country, said the Finnish Border Guard.

They are suspected of arranging the illegal entry of at least nine persons via the Helsinki South harbour and the Vuosaari harbour.

The border guard said the victims of the trafficking are of Afghan background and were sneaked to the country at the end of November using two different routes.

Four persons arrived in Helsinki on a passenger ferry from Sweden with one of the suspects, while five others were accompanied by the other suspect on a passenger ferry passing through Vuosaari from Germany.

None of the victims had a travelling document. In other cases, for instance, travelling documents of persons residing in the country have been used.

The nine smuggled persons have all applied for asylum in the country. The pre-trial investigation will be completed next month.
