State Prosecutor Christer Lundrström brought charges on Tuesday against a former prosecutor of Åland for taking bribes.

In the same case, a woman will also be prosecuted for bribery.

The events relate to a restaurant in Mariehamn last June in which county prosecutor Jens-Erik Budd met a woman whom he was prosecuting in a criminal case. The two had a conversation at the restaurant and then went to the prosecutor’s home.

Budd was initially suspected of forcing the woman into sexual acts. There was no evidence of this, however, and the woman has been charged with false accusation.

Both the defendants, however, denied any crime allegedly committed by them.

The case will be heard first by the Turku Appellate Court, because the charges relate to a prosecutor.

Budd is now a district prosecutor, but his duties have been suspended.
