According to the survey, 45 per cent of the respondents would vote for the current president in the 2018 presidential elections.
Niinistö has not yet declared whether he will seek re-election.
Pekka Haavisto came out as the second most popular candidate with 9 per cent of the respondents showing preference for the Vihreä liitto (Green League) lawmaker.
The survey also investigated the least popular candidate with Soini, the Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) chair coming up on top.
Thirteen per cent of the respondents named Soini as the least favourite candidate, even though he was also on the top-ten list of the most popular candidates. European Member of Parliament Paavo Väyrynen was named the second least popular candidate.
Taloustutkimus interviewed 1996 persons in October and November.
