FTimes – STT Report, Dec 11

The Finnish Border suspects that unidentified helicopter breached the Finnish border at around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The crossing took place in the Gulf of Finland maritime border with Russia east of Haapasaari.

The suspected violation lasted about 6 minutes, and at worst, the helicopter went 9 kilometres inside the Finnish territory.

The Finnish Air Force twice contacted to the helicopter via radio but did not get a response. The helicopter afterwards turned back and exited the Finnish territory.

The southeast Finland border authority has been in contact with the Russian border control in Viipuri regarding the incident.

The Gulf of Finland Coast Guard District will investigate unauthorised crossing of the Finnish border and will also give further explanation on how the investigation is proceeding.
