The case against the former head of Helsinki police anti-drug unit, Jari Aarnio on suspicions of drug and abuse of official power was on Thursday heard from Aarnio’s family and other witnesses.
Aarnio’s wife and daughter arrived in the courtroom as witnesses, but both exercised their right not to testify.
“I don’t want to testify,” his wife said from behind a screen.
Both the wife and the daughter wanted to leave the room so that the courtroom audience could not see them. Neither is suspected of a crime.
Aarnio’s spouse was detained during the pre-trial investigation, but the investigation revealed that she was unaware of her husband’s suspicious money matters.
Prosecution has demanded a 13-year sentence for Aarnio in the drug and abuse of official power case. Aarnio has denied all charges.
