A neo-Nazi group, named the Finnish Resistance Movement (SVL), has started street patrols in Pori, western Finland, reported the Finnish regional newspaper Satakunnan Kansa.
The group was quoted as saying that they were concerned about the safety of the local residents.
SVL started patrols on Finnish Independence Day on Dec. 6, and its activities extended to some neighboring towns in the Satakunta region, where reception centers for asylum seekers were being set up.
Police have taken negative view on the conducts. The local police claimed that street patrols by civilians are not needed, stressing that organizing street patrols is police's task.
In the beginning of October, a group called Soldiers of Odin, led by a neo-Nazi, started street patrols in Kemi, northern Finland. Kemi is only 30 km away from the border town of Tornio, where the majority of asylum seekers arrive in Finland.
The organizer of the group claimed the reason behind the patrols was "to increase people's feeling of security."
