The action of the girl was viewed in the light of without full understanding.
For murder, a minor can be sentenced from 2 to 12 years of prison. Those deemed not in sound mind are often sentenced according to toned-down penal scale.
In practice, the 9-year prison sentence means the convict will only spend three years in prison.
The killing took place in Seinäjoki in April. Both the convict and the victim were eighth-grade girls at the same school.
The convicted girl told the court that she had a crush on a boy who went to her school. However, the boy liked another girl, which annoyed the convict.
The girl asked the victim to her home. First, she spiked her fruit juice with windshield washer fluid, which she did not drink because of the strange taste.
After the failed poisoning attempt, she asked her classmate to relax in the living room.
The convict then played some music, blindfolded the victim, fetched a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her.
The girl argued that the spirit of the crime made it manslaughter instead of murder. However, the court believes that the homicide was premeditated, particularly brutal and cruel.
In addition to imprisonment, the girl was sentenced to compensate the victim's family approxi-mately euro 40,000.
