FTimes – STT Report, Dec 17

Several police officers are suspected of trying to check the records of former head of Helsinki police drug Jari Aarnio records without justification.

Lead prosecutor Tapio Mäkinen on Wednesday told the Finnish news agency STT that he had transferred half a dozen cases to the prosecutor’s office involving attempts to access records about Jari Aarnio in the police information system.

Helsinki narcotics officers are among those suspected of making unauthorised searches. The Helsinki District Court also brought official criminal charges against some Helsinki narcotics officers.

According to prosecutor Heikki Wendorf, not all the charges relate to unauthorised access of Aarnio records. However, Wendorf was unable to discuss the charges levied.

The Police Board gave the prosecutors a list of officers who had tried to access Aarnio-related records, based on login information. The majority of officers gave acceptable reasons for their access, said Mäkinen.
