The government on Wednesday won a no confidence motion in parliament by 126 votes to 56.
The vote of no confidence was preceded by an interpellation tabled by the opposition parties Vihreä liitto (Green League) and Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) on the preparation of a bill on nominee registration.
The parties questioned the preparation of the legislation on nominee registration in the light of compliance with the principles of good governance.
The nominee registration draft aroused controversy when it emerged that Finance Minister Alexan-der Stubb had given the parliament inaccurate information regarding statements supporting the nominee registration project.
The government has since abandoned the project.
