The police have launched an investigation and the incident will be examined as aggravated manslaughter. According to the lead investigator, Henrik Niklander, the conscript is suspected to have been killed from a shot fired by another conscript. Furthermore, some members of the Defence Forces staff are suspected. However, the police did not divulge the exact number of suspects. No one is, however, suspected of carrying out the act intentionally. The police, however, are investigating possible negligence, and the possibility of human error. According to the police, the accident happened when a group of nine conscripts were involved in a shooting training exercise in the dark. Infantry firearms and light rockets were fired during the training. According to the lead investigator, the person supervising the exercise was nearby when the shot fired from an assault rifle hit the conscript. The training was suspended after the death and the participants were offered crisis help afterwards.
