The fault detected at Russian nuclear power plant Sosnovy Bor did not increase the amount of radi-oactivity in the air in Finland, said the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK).

STUK took samples in Kotka and Imatra. The samples were analysed over the weekend and the re-sults were announced Monday.

One nuclear power plant unit in the Russian town Sosnovy Bor leaked some steam on Friday, caused by a malfunctioning pipe in the turbine hall. The leak was contained Friday night, but the unit had not been returned to use by Monday.

The Russian power plant is located on the southeastern coast of the Gulf of Finland, about a hun-dred kilometers from the Finnish border.

The power plant has four reactors, the first of which was completed in 1973.
