The Pirkanmaa District Court on Tuesday issued a ruling in the case where an 11-year-old girl died from injuries sustained from an automobile accident at a zebra crossing.
The 45-year-old man driving the truck that hit the girl was convicted of manslaughter and endangering traffic and was given an 80-day fine. This is worth about euro 8,700.
The incident occurred in late August in Tampere at the intersection of Pirkankatu and Mariankatu.
The court ruled that the driver should have seen the girl before the intersection. Among other infractions, the man did not approach the intersection with caution.
He also failed to give way when turning. The girl crossing the street was struck by the truck and dragged underneath. She later succumbed to her injuries.
