The hearing of the reported fake doctor’s case began in the Helsinki District Court on Monday.

Esa Laiho, who worked for ten years as a doctor using a fake diploma, is accused of, among other things, forgery and fraud, as well as being culpable in two deaths and four counts of aggravated assault.

However, according to Laiho’s legal assistant, doctorate of law Karl Uoti, it should be noted that Laiho displayed his expertise in the United States.

According to Uoti, Laiho has passed stringent theoretical and clinical tests in the US, even though he lacks official medical credentials.

The purpose of the defense on Monday afternoon was to determine why Laiho acquired false papers from Russia, he said.

Laiho denied all the charges brought against him.

Uoti claimed that criticism of Laiho's activities only came to light after the revelation of his fake diploma. Finnish language tabloid Ilta-Sanomat broke the news in 2011.
