The chair of Vihreä liitto, the second largest opposition party in parliament, Ville Niinistö and the chair of the Vasemmistoliitto, Paavo Arhinmäki, expressed surprise at the “vague statements” regarding street patrols made by the prime minister.
According to the national broadcaster Yle, Sipilä said the discussion on the street patrols has been blown out of proportion. According to the premier, the civilian patrols cannot assume the powers of the police.
“Sure, everyone in everyday life understands that, if the children are transported to their hobbies or to school or so forth,” Sipilä said.
Niinistö believes that Sipilä’s comments are so cryptic that no one could make sense of them.
According to Niinistö, the prime minister has remained silent even though the country needs leadership of value from the government.
Meanwhile, in a post on the social media Facebook, Arhinmäki said transporting children to their hobbies has nothing to do with racist street patrols.
“Now the prime minister has to show leadership and bravery, not to drool,” wrote Arhinmäki.
