Almost a thousand individuals withdrew from being reservists last year, according to a The Union of Conscientious Objectors (AKL).

The AKL in a statement said that the number has substantially increased since 296 individuals quit being reservists in 2014.

A person who wishes to withdraw from being a reservist has to complete a five day long continuing service at the Lapinjärvi training centre before the refusal to handle arms can apply to the person during times of war.

The Conscientious Objectors has called for the abolition of the supplementary ser-vice and does not view the supplementary to be educations, civil or justified on other grounds.

Furthermore, Conscientious Objectors regard the supplementary five day service as unnecessary expenditure to the society and have estimated that it costs up to euro half a million in a year.
