Pro- and anti-immigrant groups held separate demonstrations in downtown Helsinki on Saturday.

One group demonstrated against racism and for an open Finland while the other called for closed borders.

The demonstrators in favour of closed borders marched in procession from the Narinkka Square to Senaatintori. Nearly 200 people participated in the procession.

Before the procession left the Narinkka Square, a dozen counter-protesters rushed the group on hobby horses and shouted protests.

The police directed the hobby horse group away from the square.

At Senaatintori, police detained three demonstrators for harassing people and ticketed them for disobeying orders to disperse.

Earlier, an organised anti-racism protest passed off peacefully at the Helsinki Railway Square. There were about 300 people in attendance.
