A teacher suspected of the murder of her husband died on Friday in the Hämeen-linna jail, police said. She was 46.

Häme police detective chief inspector Marko Mäkinen, also head of the murder in-vestigation, confirmed the death to the news agency STT.

The woman was remanded in custody. The inquest into her death is being carried out by the Western Uusimaa police.

Police announced earlier on Friday that the woman suspected of murder had not confessed to her crime.

The Kanta-Häme District Court detained the 1969-born teacher in January on sus-picion of murdering her husband during last Midsummer.

The deceased husband was five years older than the suspected wife.

According to police, the cause of the man's death was methanol poisoning.

In late summer, the police had been contacted due to irregularities in the man's death.

The pre-trial investigation began in December on suspicion of murder, because of the coroner's opinion.
