The man was planning to travel to Syria via Romania to join the extremist group Isis, reported the Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat.
He was arrested at London’s Stansted airport on Friday and was charged on Sunday.
The court’s session on Monday lasted a few minutes, said the Helsingin Sanomat. The trial continues on February 19.
According to the British newspaper Evening Standard, the man had studied in London after relocating to the country in 2010.
The newspaper said the man is of Somali background.
The Finnish security police said the British authorities have not initiated cooperation with them on the issue.
Cooperation will be initiated, if it emerges that the case has links to Finland.
Foreign Ministry Consular Assistance Unit Director Teemu Turunen said the ministry is aware of the development and the suspect is entitled to consular assistance.
