The Southwest Finland police are investigating a male teacher suspected of having an affair with a female student.

The case is being investigated as sexual abuse and abuse of official position.

According to the police, the suspect admitted the allegations during the pre-trial investigation.

The school where the teacher works is located in the Turku region.

Lead investigator Petri Lamppu said the suspicion is related to events at the end of the last year.

The matter has not yet been referred to consideration of charges.

The suspicions came to light through another teacher’s revelations, and the request for investigation was made the rector at the school.

The age limit protection for sexual offences is generally 16 years. However, the age limit protection is 18 years in, for instances, relationship of trust involving a teacher.

The police did not divulge further details due sensitivity of the case.
