The Finnish armed forces will take part in Cold Response 2016 multinational exercise led by Norway from February 23 to March 11, said the Defence Forces.
 
The strength of the Finnish contingent in the exercise is approximately 430 persons most of whom are reservists from Pori Brigade's Finnish Rapid Deployment Force.
 
According to the Defence Forces, the main Finnish unit participating in the exercise is Pori Brigade’s Mechanized Infantry Battalion, reinforced with Swedish and Norwegian companies.
 
Furthermore, the Finns will play different executive roles in the exercise as well as in the headquarters of the multinational brigade.
 
The objective of the Finnish Army is to practice establishing and deploying units belonging to the Finnish crisis management concept as well as to develop and train the operational capabilities of the contingent in challenging conditions.
 
Previously Finland has participated in the Cold Response exercises organized in Norway in 2010 and 2012.
 
A preparatory exercise has been held in Pori Brigade before the participation in exercise Cold Response.
 
About 15,000 military personnel from 14 nations will participate in the exercise.
